W.Bro A Glave PPrGReg
Born on the 12th June 1942 a Proud Welshman. W.Bro Tony left St Davids Grammer School in 1959 to take up a 4 year apprenticeship with Cunard half spent on the North Atlantic and after attaining 2nd Mates Certificate in 1963 spent 2 years running in the Mediterranean.
The son of a Mason and therefore a ‘Lewis’ he was Initiated in to the Kemes Lodge No:3152 on the 17th December 1965 and passed to the degree of a Fellowcraft in early 1966.
From May 1965 to May 1966 Tony joined the Ellerman lines trading from the East Coast of America via the Panama Canal to Australia and New Zealand. In May 1966 Tony gained his 1st Mates certificate and left the Ellerman Lines to become a 1st Mate for World Wide Shipping based in Hong Kong
After joining the Hong Kong Shipping Company he sailed to the Far East, Russia and the West Coasts of North and South America returning some 2 and a half years later and was finally raised to Master Mason in September / October of 1968, (Memory does play tricks on you at his age), hence the large gap between his passing and raising ceremonies.
At around the same time as he was raised, he passed his Master Mariners Certificate to become a Ship’s Captain and finally took command of his own ship on the 1st June 1974 with Sealink working ferries out of Fishguard to Rosslare
Tony married Marion on the 2nd September 1970 and has 2 daughters, Kathryn and Susan who in their turn have produced 4 Grandchildren, Emily, Charles, Lewis and Amy. His family all supporting him in his working career and his Masonic Career.
In December 1979, he came ashore as Superintendent / Harbourmaster at Heysham Lancs. In 1980 W.Bro Tony was promoted and moved to Dover as Marine Superintendent with Sealink, it was natural therefore that he should join the Trinity Mariners Lodge No: 8406 becoming the Worshipful Master of that Lodge during the Masonic year of 1987 – 1988. He has since served as the Worshipful Master of that Lodge again.
When Sealink was privatised he was made redundant, but later spent 6 years as a Flight Engineer with Hoverspeed running on the Hovercraft between Dover – Calais / Boulogne, after which he returned to sea for a short period of time, running from the UK to the Eastern Mediterranean.
Proposed as a joining member on the 10th January 2009 Tony was successfully balloted for and joined the Septem Lodge No: 7788 on the 14th March 2009 and immediately became the Lodge Almoner, later becoming the Lodge DC in May 2015.
In 1998 Tony was forced to retire on medical grounds but has since made a full recovery and is still going strong. He likes to grow his own vegetables from his garden and tends that extremely well; he returns to Wales on a regular basis to visit relatives and regularly works on the family’s farm when he is there.
Tony joined Holy Royal Arch in March 1980 and due to moving to Dover resigned from the Abergwain Chapter No:3152 on the 31st December 1998, but remained a member of Holy Royal Arch by joining the Radnor Chapter No: 2587 in 1980, becoming the MEZ of that Chapter in 1991. Joined the Military Jubilee Chapter No: 2195 in February of 2010, served as Principal Sojourner for 2 years and has served as the Chapter Almoner.
