W.Bro Paul Elliott

I am Married to Debbie and we have lived in Dover all our lives. We were married in 1980 and have two sons, Nathan and Kieran and are now proud grandparents to two boys Ashton and Oscar.

I joined Freemasonry after meeting up with my already masonic friends after their meetings on a Saturday night and got invited to a few social evenings which are very enjoyable. Becoming quite curious and interested I asked how I could become a member of the Septem Lodge which was held on a Saturday evening which was easier for me to attend due to my work commitments and working away.

I was eventually initiated in to Septem Lodge 7788 in Dover on Saturday November 13th 1999 and have enjoyed every aspect of it since and have made some amazing friends and now Brothers. I was passed to the second-degree 11th March 2000. Raised  to the third degree in the same year on Saturday 9th September 2000.

I took my time to reach the annual progression ladder, there is no pressure to rush, I was still being involved in other required duties during the early years until I had a better understanding of how masonry worked, enjoying each role and learning as I went.

I have since been though the progression stages enjoying playing my part in every stage towards finally becoming Master of my lodge in 2010 which was a great privilege to have achieved. After my year in the chair as Master I became the IPM, followed by the office of the Chaplain which I am still today.

I was appointed to active Provincial Assistant, Grand Director of Ceremonies on the 20th April 2018 at Margate Winter Gardens. I really enjoyed visiting as many of the Saturday lodges in East Kent during my year as an active officer escorting the representative of the provincial grand master and an honour to do so.

I have had a very varied working career which started off in the Dover Engineering Works making manhole covers. Then I worked for a haulage Company being an express delivery driver collecting groupage from the cages in the docks and delivering items all over the U.K. My next employment was working in a chair factory and I worked in the spraying booth area. Moved on to fitting electronic/manual garage doors for a private company working all over the U.K

I have worked on the Channel Tunnel project starting in 1988 as a loco train driver on the 610 mm gauge railway in the land service tunnel working with diesel locomotives and trains.

After completing the land service tunnel, I moved to the south marine tunnel (main running tunnel) I continued there as a loco driver until completion of the tunnel I was then promoted to a locomotive chargehand looking after the trains in all six tunnels moving drivers and trains to and from tunnels transporting concrete segments and spoil feeding the TBM boring machines. After completion of all six tunnels on Friday 12th March 1993 I actually made history by taking the first standard train through the completed Channel Tunnel from the United Kingdom through to France. I have continued with my career in the tunnelling construction industry and have worked on road, rail, water and sewerage tunnels. Whilst progressing to Loco chargehand then to supervisor I am now the general foreman currently working on the Thames Tideway project cleaning up the river Thames known as the London super sewer tunnel.

I have a few hobbies including live music, general music, fishing, D.I.Y, reading, walking and socialising…… and, just maybe? looking forward to meeting you.
