W.Bro Kevin Kemp

I live with my partner Anita in the Public House that we own; we have 3 grown up children (none of whom have left home, even though we have tried to encourage them) and their partners, along with 6 Grandsons and one Granddaughter.

Kevin, joined Freemasonry in Nov 2002, he has served the Lodge going through the progressive offices from Steward to Senior Warden before becoming the Worshipful Master of the Lodge in 2009, as well as serving as the Lodge Charity Steward from 2008 until 2017 He took over as the Lodge Secretary in 2012 recently handing over to his successor in May 2023. He is an active member of 5 Craft Lodges, 1 Chapter and Knights Templar. Kevin was honoured in 2013 with promotion to Provincial rank as an active Provincial Grand Steward for 2 years, a position he really enjoyed. He received a further promotion to Past Provincial Deputy Grand Registrar in 2017. A further promotion in April 2023 to Past Provincial Junior Grand Warden was a totally unexpected honour which he says is an honour for the Lodge as well as himself, an achievement he is justifiably proud of. Kevin currently works as an administrator for the Provincial Office two days per week and serves as one of the Janitors in the Canterbury Masonic Centre, along with the post of Diary Secretary for the same Masonic Centre. He recently took over as the Almoner Co-ordinator for Group 7, as well as being a Visiting Volunteer for the Masonic Charitable Foundation, as well as being the Deputy Chairman of the Group, he continues to be an active Freemason in the Province of East Kent.

He began his working life as a Tyre Fitter after leaving college in June 1976. Kevin joined the Royal Air Force in December 1976, serving for 13 years as a Propulsion Technician, lucky enough to be posted abroad to Germany as well as many detachments all over Europe, he was lucky enough to be able to travel in his career to different parts of the world, playing Cricket to a very high standard. On leaving the RAF in June 1989, Kevin was awarded an Air Officer Commanding in Chiefs Commendation in conjunction with the 1989 Queens Birthday Honours list for services to both Royal Air Force and Civilian Cricket.

As he left the RAF to embark on his second career, he joined the Insurance Industry as a salesman, he rose to become an Area Sales Manager before leaving Sales to become a Lead Trainer / Designer of Computer system training including the setting up of many of the regulatory requirements for the use of systems in the Banking and Insurance Industry, he also acted as a Compliance Officer for an Actuarial practice in Manchester. Although now semi-retired, he continues to act as a Consultant for Banking and Insurance Companies especially in the areas of regulation and Compliance including the GDPR regulations which are required to be incorporated into new systems. He was invited to become the National Sales Manager of a Mobility Company where his regulatory knowledge was instrumental in increasing the turnover of the business from £750,000 per annum to £2,000,000 per annum an achievement he is immensely proud of.

In his spare time, Kevin also acts as the Treasurer for the Canterbury and District Bat and Trap League, and also the Chair of the organising committee of the annual Bat and Trap Charity Cup, which brings together all of the Bat and Trap Leagues in Kent to raise funds for various Charities in the County.

As if that wasn’t enough, Kevin was co-opted on to the Dunkirk Parish Council in December 2019, where he has worked on the new Parish Council website to bring it in to line with all of the current legislative requirements including the Accessibility regulations. He was elected as the Parish Council Chair on the 17th January 2022 and still serves in that position. Kevin has recently been appointed as a Trustee and the Treasurer of the Apsley Trust, the parochial Charity of Dunkirk.

His interests include; Cricket, Rugby Union, Bat and Trap and Reading and researching Local Village History, he is an avid reader, Wilbur Smith and Clive Cussler being his favourite authors.
