W.Bro C North
Colin is married to Sharon with 2 children who are both at secondary school in Canterbury.
Colin, joined Freemasonry in 1998 following on from his Father in Law W Bro Michael Prout, Michael was a devoted long standing senior member of Septem who’s passion rubbed off on Colin. Starting his masonic life as a Steward, Colin enjoyed getting to know the Brethren and was active in and out of the Lodge. The time came to join the ladder as Inner guard, and then Junior Deacon looking ahead to the role of Master in a few years.
Colin and Sharon then had an opportunity to spread their wings, and their jobs took them off to the lovely island of Jersey, Colin maintained his membership of Septem, and became a member of St Aubins Lodge no. 958 in Jersey. He was welcomed with open arms, and swiftly found himself on the Masonic ladder in Jersey. In 2008 Colin was installed as Master of St Aubins and enjoyed a wonderful year. The highlight for Colin was during his year as IPM a new PGM was to be installed, and as an acting IPM in the province Colin was involved in the new PGMs installation, something not many masons can lay claim to.
Being a family man, when Michael was diagnosed with MND in 2010 he and Sharon (and now with 2 Children) decided to move back to East Kent to support Michael and Sharon’s mum Daphne.
Masonically, Colin is now serving as Septems Charity Steward.
Colin began his working life working in the world of Stationary and Printing, enjoying a life mainly out on the road. This led Colin to meet in his travels the then MD of Invicta Radio, who convinced Colin a life in Commercial Radio beckoned. 10 years followed at Invicta FM, meeting some wonderfully talented people and lifelong friends, with experiences in Sales, production and promotions.
His experiences here helped open the door for the next chapter in Colins career, to relocate to Jersey to take a role working across Channel 103 in Jersey & Island FM in Guernsey. Over a 9 year period living in Jersey Colin moved up the ladder to eventually become Station Director at Channel 103. This role was arguably the dream job for Colin, involved in all aspects of the business, from the on air policy through to what colour the walls should be. Again meeting a raft of extremely interesting people, from the Islands Chief Minister and Lieutenant Governor on a regular basis, through to various well known household names during events or recordings.
With the decision to move back to be nearer his family, Colin decided that a change of career was due, as frankly nothing on the mainland could have compared to the role he was leaving behind in the world of Radio, and as they say ‘its good to leave on a high’.
2 years of Horticultural and Arboricultural training ensued, and Colin embarked on his passion for Gardening and Landscaping. What started out as a lifestyle choice, soon grew, with Colins entrepreneurial approach the business grew year on year, and now some 10 years later the business employs 11 people and carries out work across East Kent predominately in both domestic and commercial environments.
Outside of his family and work life Colin is a lifelong Leeds United supporter, described as ‘having done so through thin and thinner’. Colin also loves playing Golf, something he keeps promising to do more of. Colin is also a member of Canterbury Rugby Club, and a keen supporter and sponsor of youth Rugby.
