Members

As with any organisation, becoming a Member of a Lodge has certain obligations. These include Moral, Spiritual, Civil and Financial obligations, as well as your obligation to your friends and family. You should never consider joining Freemasonry if it could cause any detriment for your Friends, Connections, Family or yourself. The Moral, Spiritual and Civil obligations will be further explained as you pass through the process to become a Mason, but the financial obligations are further explained below.

Freemasonry is not as its name might suggest, a free hobby or pastime, you must meet certain Financial obligations as a matter of course. You will be expected to pay an Initiation Fee as well as an annual fee, dining fees are also payable after every meeting if you dine and of course fees are payable when you attend social occasions. Fees do vary from Lodge to Lodge.

The initiation Fee includes the registration fees for the Province of East Kent and the United Grand Lodge of England, it also includes the cost of your meal after you are initiated, as well as some personal items which are provided to you on becoming a member. The Annual fees include the Provincial Grand Lodge and the United Grand Lodge of England as well as the Masonic Charitable Foundation contribution. It also includes a proportion for the running costs of the Masonic Hall in which the Lodge meets as well as other small costs for the administration of the Lodge. Other costs that can be incurred can include the purchase of raffle tickets after meetings and at Socials and is how we raise money to support the many charities that need funds, but for these costs you are only ever expected to spend what you can comfortably afford.

The costs are not considered to be prohibitive as I am sure that you can understand, otherwise the organisation would not be in existence. It is better to be aware of any costs associated with membership prior to making an application to join or for you to find the Lodge that would be most suitable for you in terms of a Financial committment.

Further information about these costs will be explained to you should you consider that you would like to pursue an enquiry to join or you can contact the Lodge Secretary by clicking on the button below.
