Around the 22nd December of 2019, Bro. Matt Lawrence of the Septem Lodge, appealed to the Lodge for some help for little Jessie. Through one of his own children Bro. Matt became aware of the serious fight that Jessie was embarking on.Jessie's family had earlier been made aware of the seiousness of Jessie's illness, she had been diagnosed with a Brain Tumor and was facing serious treatment including Chemotherapy and all of its associated side effects over the 2019 Festive period and beyond.We cannot imagine how little Jessie was feeling but as Bro. Matt said, he felt that she did need to have some help to seriously cheer up and enjoy the festive spirit with her family.As the Lodge was in the Festive shutdown and was not scheduled to meet until January 2020, the Charity Steward and Secretary of the Lodge approached the Worshipful Master to see if we could make an Emergency Grant using the WM's discretion in accordance with the Lodge Byelaws, he agreed and so a Grant of £100 (the maximum amount allowed in the Byelaws), was made to enable some additional Christmas presents to be bought and given to Jessie so that she could be assisted in having a fantastic Christmas in 2019. Bro. Matt, immediately went to work and from his own funds, bought and presented the presents to Jessie on Christmas Eve of 2019 on behalf of the Lodge. He was later re-imbursed from the Lodge Benevolent fund.Bro. Matt has kept an eye on the progress of Jessie throughout 2020 and even though we have been in lockdown, virtually since March 2020. Despite many hours of treatments and some ups and downs, on Wednesday 30th December he was able to report that Jessie had recently had a scan that showed she was all clear, she had successfully fought the illness and as the photograph shows was in good spirits.I am sure that the Lodge will join me in saying how delighted we are to see Jessie looking so well and to wish Jessie and all of her family a very merry Christmas and a Happy peaceful and prosperous New Year.Well done to Bro.
